YONKERS, N.Y. — The City of Yonkers is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 Firefighter Examination, with the filing deadline set for Wednesday, November 25, 2026.
The written examination will be held Saturday, January 9, 2027, at Yonkers Middle High School and Lincoln High School. Dates for the required physical agility test will be announced later for qualified candidates.
Applicants must be Yonkers residents and must hand-deliver their completed firefighter exam application, along with a non-refundable $50 application fee, to the Firefighter Recruitment Office at the Riverfront Library, One Larkin Center, Room 101, Yonkers, NY 10701. Payment will only be accepted by check or money order.
Candidates will be required to pass both a written examination and physical examination, with each counting equally toward the candidate’s total score. Qualified candidates will also be required to undergo a medical examination.
The Yonkers Fire Department is also offering free training sessions to help applicants prepare for the written exam. Information on test-taking techniques, sample questions, and available training sessions can be obtained through the Firefighter Recruitment Office.
