BW Woman’s History Month Spotlight: Cathlin Gleason

Mount Vernon — The Mount Vernon Public Library Board of Trustees appointed Ms. Cathlin Gleason as a Library Trustees.

With March being the celebration of Woman’s History Month, Cathlin Gleason makes history as the first woman to be appointed by an elected board in the City of Mount Vernon. Ms. Gleason was sworn-in by Acting President Oscar Davis, Jr. to serve until the end of June to fill an unexpired term, left vacant when Sean McIntyre resigned for family reasons that required his time.

In May, Gleason will run in the election in hopes to continue to serve as Library trustee, July 1st when the new term begins. She was also appointed to the Building and Grounds and Finance Committees.

“I am excited to begin this new venture with the Mount Vernon Public Library,” Gleason tell BW. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees in streamlining the Library so our efforts foster an environment more welcoming, not only to its subscribers, but also to the employees. I also look forward to tightening spending so we can expand programs without creating an increase in taxes.”

mvplTrustee Gleason was born and raised in Mount Vernon. She graduated from The Ursuline School in New Rochelle and has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Iona College. After college, Trustee Gleason was hired by a top-rated roadway/utility construction company based in The Bronx where she became the purchasing agent for the New York and Florida divisions. Trustee Gleason dealt with the purchasing of small tools and equipment and negotiated all contracts regarding the leasing of equipment.

Trustee Gleason managed the scheduling and dispatching of all Teamsters to various job sites throughout the five boroughs. She was also a liaison between the owner and union representative during disputes. Subsequently, she became a manager at Sammarco Stone and Supply, Inc. in New Rochelle, NY where Trustee Gleason handles the daily business and finance operations, including budgeting and insurance negotiations.

ERNIE & CATHLINMs. Gleason, following in her family’s footsteps, believes in giving back to her community. She is President of the Board of Trustees of Community Service Assoc., Inc. which serves the largest soup kitchen in this city and was recently appointed as a board member to The Fleetwood Neighborhood Association. She also serves as a Planning Board Commissioner for the City of Mt. Vernon. Trustee Gleason resides in Mount Vernon with her husband, Roberto Boncardo (retired MVPD) and daughter Sofia Boncardo.
