WII (Women Invested In Mt. Vernon ) endorse City Council President Andre Wallace for Mayor of Mount Vernon
On Saturday, June 15, 2019, about 85 women convened in the Mount Public Library to discuss “What Women Want … in a political candidate.” The guest speaker was Ilyasha Shabazz activist, author, lecturer, and daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz.
These icons in the movement for black empowerment were early proponents of black involvement in the political process as well as human rights for all. The event was organized by WII (Women Invested in Mount Vernon). A cross section of women (and men) were represented in ethnicity and age. As Mount Vernon is on the brink of a Mayoral Primary, it is of paramount importance that a candidate is selected to restore our great city. Therefore, a list of qualities was developed that would make an effective mayor that could run the city.
WII (Women Invested In Mt. Vernon) interviewed 3 of the invited four candidates. Each candidate had a particular skill set to bring to the table.
However, after careful review, we conclude that City Council President Andre Wallace is the best candidate to move the city forward. Andre Wallace has the experience, expertise, and endurance that propels him to the front. Mt Vernon needs a mayor that can hit the ground running. It is the position of this group that Council president Wallace is that person.
As this is the 100th year of the commemoration of women suffrage, together we can make it count. We endorse Candidate Andre Wallace to change the outcome and direction of Mt. Vernon. Our vote will send him a mandate to represent and serve the people of Mount Vernon with accountability, integrity, and the know how to get the job done.
