Film director Spike Lee has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate. The veteran filmmaker made his announcement in a radio spot that will air in South Carolina ahead of the state’s Democratic primary on Saturday. In the spot, Lee told South Carolinians to “Wake up.” Lee’s endorsement is a minute long and has music playing over it the entire time. Lee invoked his 1989 film ‘Do The Right Thing’ when he said that Sanders “will do the right thing” when he gets to the White House.
“This is your dude, Spike Lee. And you know that I know that you know that the system is rigged! For too long we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets. Sold the okie doke. Ninety-nine percent of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering,” Lee said in the ad released Tuesday. “That’s why I am officially endorsing my brother, Bernie Sanders.”
