Unity In The Community March & Rally

Rate Article

Dear Neighbor:

Please join me on Saturday, June 27th at the annual “Unity and the Community” march and rally sponsored by Unity Baptist Tabernacle Church. This year’s event condemns the horrific racially motivated shooting death of the pastor and members of the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C. On Saturday, the Mount Vernon community will stand together to show our support for families and friends of the nine church members whose lives were taken. We also join the national call for the removal of the Confederate Flag from all government buildings, and for Congress to enact sensible gun laws that would make it more difficult for persons such as the 21-year-old man, who committed this heinous act, from easily accessing dangerous fire arms.

Each year, “Unity and the Community” event is a call-to-action for improvements to the quality of life for Mount Vernon residents. This year will highlight problems plaguing our community and work toward solutions. The theme this year is “We March and rally for Mount Vernon.”

Here are the details:

The Event: Unity and the Community March and Rally

When: Saturday, June 27th at 10:00 a.m.

Where: From City Hall to Unity Baptist Tabernacle Church located at South Second Avenue and East Second Street. A block party will follow the march and rally, where several community residents and organizations are honored for their work to improve Mount Vernon.

Please join me.

Sincerely,
Lyndon
