New Rochelle- New Rochelle Police Department responded to the area of Isaac E. Young Middle School, 270 Centre Ave, on a report of a student who had been stabbed on Trinity Place, Wednesday morning, prompting the school to go into lock down.
A 13-year-old middle school student was charged Wednesday with stabbing a 14-year-old classmate before classes started in New Rochelle, police said.
Upon arrival officers located a 14 year old male student who appeared to have been stabbed in his torso. He was treated by ambulance personnel and transported to Jacobi Medical Center and is expected to be OK, his injuries appeared to be not life threatening. Although it is early in the investigation it appears that another student, a 13 year old male, is the suspect in this incident. He is in the custody of our Youth Officers and the investigation ongoing.
The incident occurred away from the school while the students were walking to school, not on school grounds Due to the ages of the victim and suspect we will not be releasing their identities. Police have not released a motive or found the weapon in the case.
The middle school was on lockout — meaning all exterior doors were locked and no one was allowed to enter the building, lohud.com reported.
Both students are enrolled in a morning program that meets before classes start. They left the school after the program ended and that was when the violence broke out, Isaac E. Young Middle School Principal Anthony Bongo said.

“The suspect has been charged as a juvenile delinquent with Assault 2nd degree,” NRPD says via statement. “He was released to the custody of his mother and is due to appear in Family Court later this week. As of this time the knife used in the assault has not been located.”
