Street Campaigning with George Latimer in Mount Vernon

Rate Article

Mount Vernon – State Senator George Latimer, a Democratic candidate who is running for Westchester County Executive spent Tuesday morning, “Street Campaigning” talking to Mount Vernon residents about their visions for a better Westchester. No large entourage or large or police presence, like many elected officials just a few fellow Democrats, City Council candidates Clyde Isley and Janice Duarte and former Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young (who served on the Board of Legislators with Latimer) and a member of his campaign staff engaging in real talk with real residents. There will be no pre-screening of questions, to keep the difficult questions out or participants posed as residents to asked pre-set questions, just real people and real conversation about Westchester.

BW was able to get a few minutes with the Mount Vernon born and bred CE candidate and MVHS graduate (Class of 1970) about why he chose to hit the streets of Mount Vernon to have this discussion as opposed to Rye where he currently lives and knows the people. Why Mount Vernon? Latimer shared his fond memories of growing up in Mt.  Vernon and his desire to see it be more like the Mt. Vernon he remembers. (see video below)

George Latimer is a typical politician – pandering for votes. He shows up in Mount Vernon during election time, but no other time. Just as Hillary Clinton did last year, pandering for votes at Grace Baptist Church.
Has anyone asked Latimer about his position on low income housing projects and their developers receiving PILOTs (Payments In Lieu of Taxes)? Has anyone asked him why his residential city of Rye doesn’t allow such housing?
If he’s elected County Executive, he’ll do what previous CE Andy Spano did and current CE Rob Astorino has been doing to Mount Vernon – using this city as the County’s toilet.
