“I think we need some new energy,” Robin shares with BW. “At the end of the day, we just want to see Mount Vernon be the shining example that it has the potential to be and that’s what were all for. Those things that are positive and amazing that we have happening we need to build upon those and those things that aren’t they need to recede.”
There are three City Council seats, J. Yuhanna Edwards, Marcus Griffith, and Roberta Apuzzo) up for grabs. Marcus Griffith is the only incumbent running to retain his seat. Robin’s husband Floyd made the official announcement, Tuesday morning on his Facebook page.
We asked Mrs. Myers to talk about her running mates and explain why she decided to run with them in the upcoming election.
“For the most part, I was looking for a team-spirited environment and an environment that was progressive and knew how to do things at a high standard. Those are some of the things I think we need more of. We need to raise our standard of how we do things and they certainly represent that, with their educational backgrounds and their roles in the community and who they are professionally.”
Robin Myers is the owner of Harmony Designs Furniture & Interiors (115 South 4th Avenue), & President of the 4th Avenue Merchants Association and also serves on the City of Mount Vernon Architectural Review Board. She breaks down the team members;
“We have a qualified team, I’m running with a current school board member [Adriane Saunders], I’m running with an attorney [Paul Herrick Esq.], I’m running with a certified public accountant [Walidah Aime CPA] and I am a property owner and community organizer and leader and I think that synergy of people who are not politicians and not looking to be one but are certainly civically engaged is what’s inspiring.”
Look for Myers, Sanders, Herrick and Aime to appear on an upcoming episode on People Before Politics Radio toward the last two weeks in July.
The petition process starts Tuesday, each candidate must get at least 1000 signatures to make the ballot to run in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, September 12th.
