Mount Vernon — MVPD Detectives arrested a twenty-two (22) year old suspect, Monday, in connection with a reported robbery that occurred on March 3, 2016. The suspect was arrested at his home in Yonkers, N.Y.
It was reported that on March 3, 2016, at approximately 3:40 o’clock p.m., that Edwin Santiago, of 23 Bennett Ave. Yonkers, N.Y., brandished a handgun and stole a cell phone from a sixteen year old female victim. The suspect subsequently fled the scene in his vehicle.
Detectives investigating the case were able to recover video that captured the suspect fleeing the scene. Detectives then utilized license plate reader technology to further identify the fleeing vehicle, where after further investigation identified the suspect.
The victim subsequently identified the suspect and Mr. Santiago was charged with Robbery 2nd degree, for which he was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court. The alleged weapon was not recovered.
Mr. Santiago has a criminal history that includes a conviction for Robbery in the third degree, for which he pled guilty in January of 2016.
