Black Lives Matter Protest, Palisades Ave, Yonkers, Tuesday, June 2, 2020

These are just a few of the many protests and rallies that have taken place in Westchester County after the death of George Floyd. If you were part of one of the events I missed, send us pictures and videos to BlackWestchesterMag@gmail.com.
Black Westchester salutes all the organizers and those who came out to peacefully protest the killing on black and brown individuals by law enforcement. Do not let this movement just be another moment, call your elected officials and demand police crime legislation. If there is a candidate that wants your vote in the June 23rd Democratic Primary, let them know if they want your vote they are going to have to pass legislation for police crimes.
New York lawmakers today voted to criminalize chokeholds by police officers that cause death or injury, one of several law enforcement reform bills expected to become law this week. The Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Act makes the use of a chokehold by a police officer a felony. It creates a new crime called aggravated strangulation and carries a maximum sentence of 15 years. Make sure your elected officials are backing these bills and passing them here in Westchester, and that’s just for starters but you have to also protest with your vote and stop just giving it away for free
