Peekskill — At a meeting held Sunday evening, the Peekskill Republican Committee unanimously endorsed Vincent A. Vesce as their candidate for Mayor in this November’s election. In addition to Vesce, the Committee put Peekskill in front of party politics by endorsing Lauren Brady, Marlon Mahon and Luis Segarra for City Council. While Brady is registered as a Republican, both Mahon and Segarra are registered Democrats.
Mr. Vesce served on the City Council with distinction from 2014 thru 2017 but chose not to run for re-election at the time his term was ending due to pressing professional, and family responsibilities. He was known to those who observed City Council Meetings as a person who examined issues in an educated, measured, non-partisan manner and worked with his council colleagues and the public with respect and dignity.
Immediately following his endorsement, Vesce said, “I am honored to have received this endorsement for Mayor and excited about running with such a well rounded and highly qualified group of City Council candidates.
Lauren, Marlon, Luis and I all believe that partisan politics has gotten in the way of what Peekskill was once all about. That is an inclusive community where all citizens are stakeholders in our future regardless of political affiliation or ethnicity. As I grew up in Peekskill, it was never about “us versus them”. Rather, it was always about “we…we as one community” focusing on what was best for all of Peekskill was what mattered most. Unfortunately, that feeling no longer exists. Peekskill is not being served well because of the current one party rule where political favoritism is what matters most. Our team will end the political cronyism that exists in Peekskill by governing in a transparent, non-partisan and professional manner. We will serve everyone in Peekskill with equal passion regardless of whether they live in public housing, a condominium complex, one of our many neighborhoods or are a member of the business community”.
Known to many in the community by his nickname “Boo”, Mr. Vesce and his wife, Jolene, have three children, two of whom are in college while the youngest attends Peekskill’s Hillcrest Elementary School. Vesce is a business consultant for the airport services industry and a former executive at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
The City Council candidates that were endorsed along with Mr. Vesce bring a diverse set of impressive qualifications to this bi-partisan team of candidates.
Brady is the Events Manager at the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce. Living and working in Peekskill for practically her entire life, Lauren has a deep knowledge and understanding of Peekskill and what makes it tick. Along with her involvement with a number of local organizations and civic minded initiatives, she co-founded the not-for-profit “This Is Me Foundation” which was created to raise awareness about alopecia and provide hope to anyone facing adversity. Since its inception, Lauren’s Foundation has awarded forty-two local and national scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Lauren and her family are known throughout the City for their untiring efforts to support and help others without having to be called upon to do so. “My primary objective in running for City Council is to be a positive voice for every citizen at City Hall. Negativity and pitting one group against another will not allow us to flourish as a community. When elected, our team promises a City Hall that will be open and responsive to all.”
Luis Segarra is Co-owner and CFO of The Crescent Companies, which he founded in Peekskill in 2001. Since its inception the company has grown to be one of the foremost consulting firms in New York overseeing contract issues in the construction industry related to Minority & Women Owned Business Programs (MWBE), Affirmative Action, Civil Rights, Integrity Monitoring and Prevailing Wage Contract Compliance. He is a member of the African American Chamber of Commerce and a Past President of the National Hispanic Business Group. The latter was founded in 1985 by a prominent group of Hispanic entrepreneurs to develop business opportunities for the Hispanic community. Currently he serves as the Secretary of the Peekskill Rotary Club. Without fanfare, Luis gives back to his community over and over by contributing his time and money behind the scenes whenever a deserving need comes to his attention. Segarra said, “I love Peekskill, its people and its potential. On a weekly basis the City Council ignores the voices and needs of the community at large. When elected, our team will stop the special interests from dictating what happens in our City and provide the type of leadership that will serve all of our citizens and not just a selective few.”
Luis, the youngest of 12 children, was raised in The Bronx. He and his wife, Janet, have been Peekskill residents for the past 26 years. Their two children and Granddaughter also reside in the City.
Marlon Mahon brings twenty years of experience as an IT and corporate management consultant to the slate of candidates. His professional life has included working as a Manager for Accenture, a Fortune 500 Global Management Firm. He was a Principal & Director of International Development at RTX Technology Partners up until two years ago when he joined Slalom Consulting where he serves a client base located throughout the Greater NY metropolitan area. Mahon said, “My professional life has provided me an opportunity to understand the importance of addressing issues in a strategic manner and recognize the need to engage those affected in order to find solutions that will actually work. This is not the way the City Council conducts itself. The City’s leaders must provide an environment that gives current residents and potential home and business owners the confidence to invest here as opposed to other locales.
Clearly, our current City Government has room for improvement. Once we are elected, our team will conduct the City’s business professionally, develop a Master Plan with community input and communicate a vision for Peekskill that will be the envy of the entire Hudson Valley”.
Mahon and his wife, Xiomara, are residents of Peekskill for the past 19 years and have one daughter.
The Vesce Team will be holding a formal announcement in the near future where they will lay out their plans and platform for a better Peekskill.
Vincent A. Vesce will be challenging the Democratic Incumbent, Mayor Andre Rainey in the general election. Mayor Rainey announced he was running for re-election on the Episode 199 of the People Before Politics Radio Show, Sunday, January 20th.
