After watching the news of the attack at the Rabbi’s house and shooting at a Texas church, on top of all the Pattern Of Hate especially since Trump has been in office I felt it was time for some Real Talk.
Below is a transcript of what I read in my opening monologue… please feel free to leave your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
Hate has become the dialog and the currency both locally and nationally which has only been fermented by the current occupier of the White House. It’s a pattern of hate.
Five people were attacked at a Hanukkah Celebration at a Rabbi’s house in Monsey, NY this morning. Govenor Cuomo said all these cases should be prosecuted as domestic terrorism.
First let me say I will always speak up on all forms of hate and cases where people are attacked because of race, creed, color sexual orientation or religious belief. Just like I would speak up against systematic racism against Black People, we have to be consistent in our outrage in all situations like this.
We also had a shooting in a church in White Settlement, Texas this morning that left two people dead and another person in critical condition.
The FBI released a report in early November that hate crimes have dipped slightly in 2018 while violence against individuals rose to a 16-year high according to the numbers showing an rising level of violence and increased number of crimes against persons such as intimidation assaults and homicide
We’re seeing a leaner and meaner type of hate crime, Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University San Bernadino. “Homicides were up and crimes against persons were up
In 2019 the Pattern of Hate continues and Trump attacks every group of people and empowers a white supremacist attitude that cosigns and encourages hate and divisiveness in America.
Gov Cuomo said the attack at the Rabbi’s house will be prosecuted as domestic terrorism I would like to see him and other elected officials, nationally and locally be as outspoken against and prosecute other hate motivated crimes against African-Americans, Latinos, the LGBTQ community, native americans and others including of the killing of unarmed black men at the hands of armed and trained law enforcement who claim they fear for their life, as domestic terrorism, not just anti-Semitism.
We must call out and address this pattern of hate in this country as well as in our local communities. We see it seeping into local elections in Mount Vernon where black Democrats attack and make permanent enemies of other Black Democrats that you have to live with after the election.
Hate is Hate and growing increasingly dangerous as a whole. We have to stop saying oh that’s another group of people that doesn’t affect or have anything to do with me and remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr – Injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. The best way to combat Hate is with Love and Mutual Respect for one another.
Remaining quiet during these acts of domestic terrorism and acts of hate filled violence makes you come off complicit. So I’m calling for more love and mutual respect in 2020 nationally and locally. I may be an idealist but I will continue to call for more love and mutual respect as I continue to call out hate, systemic racism and injustice as long as I have breath in my body and that is Real Talk from AJ Woodson
