Robert Putnam, “People may go to the library looking mainly for information, but they find each other there.” Promoting the progress of knowledge is a part of the libraries role.
For the love of reading, studying together, and researching the library holds many stories. The history of libraries began with the first efforts to organize collections of documents.
With more than 450,000 books in its collection, the Mount Vernon Public Library is the Central Library in the Westchester Library System, the sixth largest public library in the state and the second largest in the New York City region.
Residents and elected officials joined for a spectacular open house showcase, Thursday, 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Many were cordially invited. The Library Board of Trustees introduced the Interim Director, Ms. Evania Thompson. The crowd of over one hundred discovered all of the exciting things happening at Mount Vernon Library.
The Library Board of Trustees President Oscar Davis Jr., Brian G. Johnson Esq., Cathlin Gleason, and Dr. Darren M. Morton shared the library’s accomplishments and future goals.
Light refreshments provided as we listened to Harlem Soul represented by Todd Smith on the saxophone. The evening ended with the Mount Vernon Public Library presenting The Mount Vernon City School District Performing & Visual Arts Orchestra under the direction of Ms. Normearleasa Thomas and Mr. Mansa Gory.
