To: The Mount Vernon and Facebook Family

We  are saddened, shocked and appalled by the violence that occurred this evening at the Mount Vernon Festival billed as Arts on Third.

We always prided ourselves on establishing a family friendly event that encouraged tolerance, peace and love.  The Original Arts on Third Festival never had any incident of violence since its inception in 1999. Our phones have been ringing off the hook since the tragic shooting and we want to remind you that our only involvement with this event is our prayers.

While we, as owners of the trademarked name Arts on Third Festival, sent out a cease and desist letter signed by our attorney to the Mayor of Mount Vernon and the City Council to from use of this branded name, it was used without our permission and consent. It is our hope that this incident does not detract from the positive achievements the original Arts on Third had on the community.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family, the attendee who was injured as well as the Mount Vernon family who witnessed this brazen act of violence.

  1. It’s appalling that the MVAC issued this self serving statement in the wake of a tragic incident. They should be ashamed of themselves
