Mount Vernon Mayor And Police Commissioner Announce Conclusion Of PPP Scam investigation

By now many have heard rumors of a massive PPP Loan scam allegedly involving 100 City of Mount Vernon employees. News 12 Westchester broke the story, NBC New York and others have reported stories on it and elected officials like Congressional Candidate Jamaal Bowman made statements on it. Both no one including the various news agencies have been able to get to the bottom of it.

On Friday, October 30th, Halloween Eve, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard and MVPD Commissioner Glen Scott announced via a statement the conclusion of their internal investigation.

The Offices of the Mayor and the Commissioner of Public Safety have concluded the investigation on city employees that have participated in filing for COVID 19 federal grants or loans. It has been reported, that a total of 17 city employees have received funds. The breakdown is as follows: (10) Firefighters, (5) Water Department, (1) DPW and (1) Civilian Police department employee.

It is up to the Federal Government to see if these loans or grants were legally obtained. We have cooperated directly with the FBI and forwarded information from employee that were transparent and cooperated with our internal investigation.

Black Westchester reached out to both Mayor SPH and Commissioner Scott to confirm or deny an FBI investigation, whether the 17 employees they identified who received loans actually had businesses or were the loans illegally obtained. If they were illegal was there a kick back scheme and if so would there be any punishment for those involved.

“All I can say is that the total employees reporting wished to be transparent and cooperative in the federal investigation and that is an accurate number of reporting employees,” Commissioner Scott shared with BW. “My numbers are based on the Mayors memorandum to comply. This information was forwarded to the FBI for determination of outcome.”

Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard informed the city turned over their findings and would not go into further details due to possible federal investigation.

No further information was available. Stay tuned to Black Westchester for more on this developing story.
