Mount Vernon Man Arrested In Yonkers For Shooting In New Rochelle

At approximately 8:09pm on Friday, August 14, 2020, New Rochelle Police officers responded to an apartment on Union Ave on a report of a man shot in the chest. Upon arrival officers located the victim, a 27-year-old male resident of the apartment who had suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest, police officials inform Black Westchester.

Officers immediately rendered aid to the victim and treated the wounds until ambulance personnel arrived. He was transported to an area hospital and was treated for his injuries, which have been reported by medical staff as not life threatening.

Police officials tell BW, that this was not a random act, the shooting occurred inside the apartment, and both the victim and suspect know each other. New Rochelle Police detectives are currently conducting an investigation into this matter.

Subsequent investigation led to the identification of a suspect. On Saturday, August 15 at approximately 8:20pm, Richard Hayes aged 23 of Mount Vernon, New York was arrested on Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers, without incident. The Yonkers Police Department assisted NRPD, in the arrest.

Richard Hayes was charged with Attempted Murder Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree. He is in custody awaiting arraignment in New Rochelle City Court.
