MV Democratic City Committee Nominating Convention 2021
And The Winners Are....
Mount Vernon- The Mount Vernon Democratic City Committee held their Nominating Convention, Thursday, February 4th. Minus a few minor glitches that comes with with the new normal of virtual events due to the pandemic, it was well put together.
A shout out to Chairman Reginald Lafayette, Tajian Nelson, Mary Graves, the entire Executive Committee and everyone who was involved in putting this successful virtual convention together. Thank you to Tajian for sending me the link and Reggie for saying it was okay!
“Westchester can not succeed unless Mount Vernon succeeds,” County Executive George Latimer said as he addressed the committee at the beginning of the convention.
And The Winners Are….
COUNTY LEGISLATOR: County Legislator Tyrae Woodson-Samuels was Unanimously Nominated with no opposition for the party nomination for the 13th LD.
The nominations for the 14th Legislator District held by David Tubiolo will be considered for party nomination at the Westchester County Convention on February 10th due to his district crossing city lines, Mr. Lafayette explained.
COMPTROLLER (1):
The Democratic Party Nominee is Rev. Darren Morton who led with 7001 votes. Derickson Lawrence came in second with 5792 votes and Richard Thomas coming in third with 664 votes. Councilman Marcus Griffith withdrew his name from nomination at the beginning of the convention.
“Thank you all!,” Rev. Morton said after being announced the nominee. “I promise to do my best.”
CITY COUNCIL (3):
The Democratic Nominees Are as follows;
Councilwoman Janice Duarte with 8091.5 votes
Former Mayor André Wallace with 7643.5 votes
Cathlin Gleason with 7302.5 votes
They started with 11 candidates on the first ballot and the committee voted for the top 5 candidates in the second ballot just before 11pm.
I have to say despite disagreements and differences of opinions it was good to see those in attendance being able to laugh and come together at the end. The City needed to see that, and could use a lot more of that between our elected officials and primary candidates.
See below for all the candidates numbers.
