Mount Vernon City Comptroller Debra Reynolds – Heroine or Villain?

Comptroller Gives Residents A Financial State Of The City

Mount Vernon — Over the past three years, one individual in Mount Vernon City Government who gets discussed the most is the City Comptroller. There has been much publicized criticism of the comptroller from former Mayors Richard Thomas and Andre Wallace, current Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, various City Council members and other elected officials, leaders and stakeholders. Not to mention an audit from the State Controller. Many voices in opposition to the comptroller and her actions can be heard on social media, articles in Lohud, news coverage on News 12, but the voice we hear from the least – with the exception of volatile Board of Estimate meetings broadcasted live on the City of Mount Vernon Facebook page – is the comptroller herself.

Three different mayoral administration, several different council members and various commissioners cannot all be wrong, can they? Is everything they say about her true? Everything cannot be her fault, cause even a broken clock is right twice a day. The thing about covering Mount Vernon is you have to continue to peel the layers of the onion and speak to five different people to come close to the truth.

Bob Marrone formerly of WFAS and WVOX and currently the owner of Radio Westchester always asks me when he has me on is she the Heroine or Villain? A question we both have been trying to answer for three years. One thing is for sure something is rotten in Denmark, but who is truly to blame. I believe there is enough blame to go around but I will let you decide for yourself.

Recently Comptroller Reynolds shared a video on Facebook, we are calling her Financial State of The City. I share with you all here and let you decide if Mount Vernon Comptroller Debra Reynolds is a Heroine or Villain? Watch the video below and feel free to leave you feedback below this editorial in the comment section. We want to hear from all of you, tell us what you think.

  1. All this BS needs to stop. The people of mount Vernon are the ones hurting. It saddens me because we put all these politicians in office. They talk the talk but do not walk the walk. I have never seen such a small county get in such a mess. Where is the money ?? Why are so many jobs created?? To do what?? The first snow storm occurred. Let’s be real a piss poor job was performed. I don’t blame mount Vernon sanitation. Why?? If you owe me overtime money the only job I’ll do is the requirement. It real angers me to see this county in a big hole. Maybe the politicians think that the big building on broad street will bring in the money. Shame on the politicians that i voted on to put in city hall. It’s disgusting the way things are run. In all actuality i don’t see any good change in mount Vernon. It’s very sad. I
I listened to the comptroller and i know it must be difficult at times dealing with superiors. How is it that the reserves are Being used?? Ms Reynolds is right a budget needs to be adopted?? Why is it taking so long?? All i can say is that I’m very disappointed in the way things are done and the way mount Vernon is suffering. In time i will move out of mount Vernon, anyone who tries to move into mount Vernon i would tell them to THINK REAL HARD ON THAT.

The Comptroller was good until she started messing with the firefighters money. We’re out there dealing with all kinds of danger now the Covid situation…. essential services should never be played with, bottom line…No one knows how much We’re needed until you need us….

  3. If the city of Mount Vernon is not collecting taxes how is it to pay for it city expenses in 2020. When we don’t have income we have to use our savings. So I don’t understand what the problem is with a controller we have savings for a rainy day and COVID-19 is a rainy day. If the comptroller feels that the mayor’s expenses went above and beyond what it takes to run the city, then the controller should delineate what those expenses are and why she feels they were excessive and unnecessary.

  4. I wholeheartedly support Debra Reynolds 100% for another four years. She is keeping everyone in check. She needs to be reelected without hesitation

She has to go AJ. There are 3 Mayors that have voiced difficulty in working with her leadership of municipal finances from 2018 to now.

Also, her overall conduct in meetings and disregard for the basic parliamentary procedure within Robert’s Rules of Order is unbecoming for the Chief Financial Officer of one the largest city’s in the State of New York.

Debra Reynolds is no good for the city. She manipulates each situation as if she’s a victim and have some people fooled. She’s a true narcissist and she’s putting this entire city in serious danger. She needs to go now… Anyone would be foolish to vote her back into office.

    • The Mayor is a danger. She keeps spending money that the city doesn’t have.

Deborah Reynolds has my support for another 4 years.
