Mount Vernon – Elected officials (City Council members Marcus Griffin, Richard Thomas and Debra Reynolds, Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, County Legislator Lyndon Williams, Comptroller Maureen Walker, Judge Helen M. Blackwood, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Congressman Engel, Democratic Chairman Reginald Lafayette, Etc), City Council and Mayoral Hopefuls (Andre Wallace, Lisa Copeland, John Boykin, Clinton Young and Marc Stuckey), city of Mount Vernon employees (Fire Dept, Police Dept, MV Auxiliary Police, DPW), residents and several organizations (Razorbacks, Girls Scouts, AKA’s, Portuguese American Club, Mount Vernon Dolphins, etc) joined Ernest D. Davis, the City of Mount Vernon, NY, and the Central Committee for Veterans Affairs to salute the men and women who served the United States in times of war. The day started off with a wreath laying ceremony at 9 a.m. at City Hall Plaza followed by the annual parade which kicked off at 10 a.m. from the city’s transportation center at Prospect and Park avenues. BW would also like to wish City Clerk George Brown a happy birthday. Brown celebrated by marching in the parade to salute our veterans. While Memorial Day is the unofficial beginning of what many term the silly season, where politicians begin to kick off their campaigns,, it was good to see Mount Vernon stand together, harmoniously to honor our veterans. BW would like to thank all the men and women who have served our country to keep us safe, something many of us take for granted! HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
