Mayor Thomas Runs For Re-election
Mayor Richard Thomas kicked off his re-election campaign Monday night.
Mount Vernon – Mayor Richard W. Thomas officially kicked off his re-election campaign Monday night at Lusiadas located across the street from City Hall at 6 Gramatan Avenue.
Mayor Thomas was who elected as the youngest city councilman in the city’s history in 2011 was also elected the youngest mayor in the city’s history in 2015.
Despite felony charges against him by the New York State Attorney General’s office for the alleged theft of campaign funds , maintains his innocence and is set to stand trial later this year. He says he will continue to fight to keep the mayoral office.
Mayor Thomas will face Councilwoman Delia Farquharson, Council President and Andre Wallace, and jail attendant Carlo Jean-Baptiste, Sr in the upcoming Democratic Primary in June.
Others rumored to be running for Mayor of Mount Vernon include former Mayor Ernest D. Davis, former congressional candidate Derickson Lawrence, former Mount Vernon Police Commissioner and 2017 City Council Candidate Clyde Isley. None have confirmed or denied their candidacy when asked by Black Westchester.
The city Democratic committee is expected to endorse its candidate for mayor, Tuesday, February 19th. Candidates will start collecting nominating signatures, Tuesday, February 26th, to get on the primary ballot.
