Mount Vernon – Preston Thomas, the 43-year-old half-brother of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard W. Thomas, was arrested, Wednesday, charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, after a traffic stop shortly after 10 a.m. on Lawrence Street.
Preston was ordered held without bail following his arrest for allegedly driving with fake registration tags. Officials tell Black Westchester, Preston is currently being held in County Jail.
According to the felony complaint, the arresting officer noticed that the two temporary New Jersey registration tags on the 2005 BMW Thomas was driving appeared fake because they were laminated and had a different font. She also reported that Thomas claimed he had bought the tags on East Third Street.
Thomas also had four plastic bags of what appeared to be marijuana, according to the court document.
At his arraignment, the judge declined to grant Thomas bail because he has three prior felony convictions, according to a spokeswoman for the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. A felony hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Lohud reported.
