Legislators Set The Record Straight on The IPA

Westchester County Legislator Lyndon Williams & Board of Legislator Chairman, Legislator Ben Boykin stopped by the People Before Politics Radio Show, Sunday, January 14 to discuss the heavy publicized and debated Immigration Protection Act. With all the misinformation circulating around the act, the Legislators straight the record out about the act, the vote, the veto and what the IPA was intended to do. ACT-2017-165 regarding the policy of the County of Westchester regarding the treatment of individuals relating to their Citizenship or Immigration Status, was adopted by the BOL, August 7, 2017.

Legislators Catherine Borgia, Benjamin Boykin, David B. Gelfarb, Kenneth W. Jenkins, James Maisano, Catherine Parker, Virginia Perez, MaryJane Shimsky, Alfreda Williams, Michael Kaplowitz votes yes, John G. Testa, Gordon A. Burrows, Francis Corcoran, Sheila Marcotte, David J. Tubiolo voted against the IPA and Margaret A Cunzio, Lyndon Williams were absent from the vote.

Following President Donald Trump’s controversial executive order restricting travel by refugees and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries, Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) introduced the bill in February 2017 hoping to reduce fear in Westchester’s immigrant community.

Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino kept his promise and An attempt to override Astorino’s veto of the Immigrant Protection Act failed (11-6) by a single vote in the Westchester County Board of Legislators on Sept. 25.
