Former Deputy Clerk Lauren Carter Announces Candidacy For Mt Vernon City Council

First To Announce In What Promises To Be A Crowded Race

Mount Vernon’s former deputy clerk Lauren Carter officially launched her campaign for Mount Vernon City Council, Thursday morning on the steps of City Hall.

Ms. Carter enters what has the potential to be a crowded field of candidates for three council seats now held by Councilmembers Marcus Griffith, Delia Farquharson and Janice Duarte.

Councilwoman Delia Farquharson has already announced her intention to seek a second four-year term on Facebook. Councilwoman Janice Duarte has not confirmed to Black Westchester whether she has decided to run for a second term, but said that she would not focus on the race until next year. Marcus Griffith is expected to run for Comptroller instead of re-election.

Ms. Carter shared with Black Westchester that she decided to run because she feels she has the experience Mount Vernon needs- now more than ever- to move us out of stagnancy and to lift us out of decline.

“The city needs experience and people with fresh ideas, bold ideas,” Lauren shares with Black Westchester. “We’re at a pivotal moment now.”
