Kathie Brewington won the election to become the newly elected President of the Mount Vernon branch the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The elections were held electronically on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Brewington defeated Mattie Little who has held the position for 12 years.
“I would like to thank Ms. Mattie Little for her years of service and dedication to the NAACP Branch 2161, of Mount Vernon, NY,” Mrs. Brewington shared with Black Westchester.

“As the incoming President, I would like to first give honor to God for this opportunity. It is my immediate hope to work closely with the community and other organizations. We will continue to build on the “6 key NAACP game changers” to enhance Mount Vernon. We will put a strong focus on education, public safety, and expanding youth/ young adult engagement. We will also embrace technology and open a dialogue within the community.”
