Mount Vernon, NY: Saturday, September 27, 2014 on day three, the Mount Vernon Film Festival will feature the webisode, In Dice We Trust starring the late Rodney “Ro” Mack, during the Youth Block between 4-6pm at The Dole Center. Unfortunately, on July 14th 2014, lead actor Rodney “Ro” Mack lost his battle to brain cancer and didn’t get to see history made at Inaugural of The Mount Vernon Film Festival. This webseries as well as the screening of it at MtVFF is in honor of him.” The series was originally released via the internet on August 28th which would have been Mount Vernon native Ro Mack’s 28th birthday. Award winning writer and director Lamont Stephens had this to say about his lead actor and dear friend: “The greats die young. Ro Mack was a humble, dedicated person, gone too soon. I like to think he is in the Forever 27 club with the likes of – Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobain.” In Dice We Trust is set and produced in Englewood, NJ, a city literally divided by the right and wrong side of the tracks. The story follows two young men, life long friends, one from the affluent suburbs of the city the other a less privileged parolee trying to find the right path. They are both seduced into Englewood’s infamous underground gambling scene, riddled with drugs, gambling and the possibility of murder. The series is being recognized for it’s realistic portrayal of urban sub cultures and overwhelming yet overlooked social epidemic of young people who have been sheltered from crime their entire lives, who chase the thrill of precarious illegal lifestyles. The creator Lamont Stephens received his BFA degree from Rutgers University and filmmaking training at NYU’s SCPA allowing him to work with Lindsey Lohan, fashion photographer Indrani and award-winning producer Rick Schwartz (Gangs of New York, The Departed).
