Brentwood, Long Island – On Saturday, November 10, 2018 Excellence In Success presented the Excellence In Corrections Awards Luncheon at the Brentwood Country Club. The awards luncheon honored active and retired Corrections Officers for their excellence.
On January 1, 2018, Errol Toulon officially became Suffolk County’s first African-American Sheriff. In his position as Sheriff, he will oversee the Sheriff’s Office working to serve and protect Suffolk County residents through innovative programs to reduce inmate recidivism, by promoting sound fiscal policies and by working cooperatively with law enforcement and community groups throughout the county to improve our neighborhoods and correctional facilities., Networking
The luncheon included a Cocktail Hour, Networking Hour, and a Red Carpet Photo Opps. Opening remarks were presented by Alicia Figueras-Lambert. Alicia Figueras-Lambert saluted the luncheon special keynote speaker Sheriff’s Eroll Toulon body of work which leads to a rousing applause prior to his keynote speech which made for an illustrious introduction of Mr. Toulon.
Among the honorees for the luncheon were Lt. William M. G. Perry, Executive Office of the Academy Bureau/County Relations Unit, Phil Andrews, NYCDOC Retired Correction Officer/President of Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and Past Two Term President of the 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc., Julius Nelson, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office of Community Affairs, Keith Ellison, Sergeant Suffolk County Sherriff’s Office, and Vera (Bethea) Fludd. In March of 2018, Vera Fludd was appointed Sheriff of Nassau County. She is the first African American and woman to have ever held this position. (See the full list of honorees below)
