MVPL (4 Seats)
775 Delores Mack
627 Loretta Thomas
609 Hope Marable
573 Jonathan M. Davis
** Damaris Moné lost by 6 votes (567)
That is the results. Now it’s time for some REAL TALK!
Despite the attacks, the rumors, a Black Westchester article being shared by opponents during the campaign and used against her, the people have spoken, and Hope Marable has been re-elected as Library Trustee.
“Dear MountVernonites, neighbors, family, friends, community, I cannot thank you enough for the love & support you have extended to my sister & me throughout the course of our campaign(s) for the City School District Elections, Mount Vernon, New York. Forgive me for not having made a public remark before now, but please understand I am a little overwhelmed at the moment and dare I say, “Emotional”. Once I wrap my head around what was indeed a monumental win, (not just for me), but, for us as a community and our City’s Library, I will address you in the proper form and fashion. In the meantime, thanks so very much for coming together to save our Library,” Marable shared on Facebook after the official results were announced.
There has been a lot of talk and I received a plethora of phone calls, emails and text messages asking me how can Hope ufor a position she was removed from and many others telling me her candidacy was illegal or the state was going to remove her in 30 days. When I asked all for any sort of documented proof to back up the claims and allegations, I have yet to receive anything. I have been told this since she was removed by other trustees and library officials and despite my requests for something in writing stating that, no one has yet to furnish anything,
Now anyone reading if you have anything that states any of these claims by all means please email to BlackWestchesterMag@gmail.com but outside of that, the story is Hope Marable has been re-elected to serve as a Mount Vernon Public Library Trustee. If the state actually comes in and removes her as many claim is the case, then I will report that then but until then, this is the story. You do not have to like it but you have to live with it. At some point people of Mount Vernon have to move on and work together, I’m just saying.
As far as the Mount Vernon City School District election, Cynthia Crenshaw who lost the School Board election by three votes has sent an email to Board of Elections Democratic Chair Tajian Nelson and cc’d the MVCSD that she is contesting the results.
Crenshaw’s contesting of the election results has led to a cancelation of a Special School Board Meeting Thursday, May 18th at 8:30am (Facebook post announcing meeting has been removed). The purpose of the meeting was to accept the elections results of 2023 Annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election and to swear in three new trustees. Public comment was not going to be accepted at the meeting.
Congratulations to all the winners. Somehow, we do not think this will be the end of the saga so stay tuned to Black Westchester for more on this developing story.
