DOJ Launches Hate Crime Probe In Charleston Shooting

Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified all nine victims of shooting.

CHARLESTON, SC — The Department of Justice is opening a hate crime investigation into the shooting that took place at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, a DOJ spokesperson said Thursday.

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch calls shooting at an African-American church in South Carolina that killed nine people, a ‘heartbreaking, deeply tragic’ crime.

The investigation will run parallel to the state investigation and will coordinate with the FBI.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified all nine victims of shooting.
