Mount Vernon – Westchester District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. along Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas and other law enforcement officials announced the arrest of David Hardy, 21, of Mount Vernon in the shooting death of Shamoya McKenzie, 13, on Jan. 17, 2017.
The mayor enlisted the help of state police, the state parole division, the FBI and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office to assist the Mount Vernon Police Department in the investigation.
“The local police department, the FBI, the district attorney’s office and parole have not slept since this shooting occurred,” Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino said.
“Shamoya’s death was not in vain,” Mount Vernon Mayor Richard W. Thomas said at a news conference.
BW exclusively announced the shooter’s name Monday. David Hardy who will be 22 on February 23rd is charged with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon both in the Second Degree. Hardy a seasonal worker for DPW, appeared early Tuesday afternoon in Mount Vernon City Court and is due back in court Feb. 2.
