Whether you are looking for some savory Soul Food, tasty Caribbean Cuisine, or just want to support some African-American owned establishments, here is a brief list of some Black-owned restaurants in the Lower Hudson Valley and surrounding areas to help you get your fix. Until the county opens back up many of these establishments will be delivery and carry-out only.
Note: Some may not survive the pandemic so there is a chance some restaurants listed are no longer open or would have closed after this was written and if that is the case we will make the updates as we are aware of them. So we apologize in advance if you come across any and that is why we are providing phone numbers, websites and social media as well.

A popular spot with many Mount Vernon locals, King’s reputation for delicious, affordably-priced soul food constantly wins it new fans from near and far.
If you are looking for unapologetic old school down south style Southern cooking and incredible hospitality this is the place to be. Pull up to the front and it looks like you are down south. Inside humble decor but the food is freshly prepared (new trays always coming out) nothing is ever sitting.
Before the Coronavirus pandemic, eat-in dining was available as well as Carry-out for those who prefer to enjoy this restaurant’s cooking from the comfort of their own home. Right now you only have the carry-out option. Turkey Wings are meaty and cooked perfectly with the right gravy (my personal favorite). Tasty juicy fried chicken. Mac and cheese, Collard greens, Cabbage. All greens have no meat besides smoked turkey. Whiting on Fridays. And for those who still want pork on their fork, they have plenty of options for you too.
Sandwiches are served with white or wheat bread, and cornbread is included with lunch and dinner meals. If you have space for dessert, you have a choice of sweet-potato pie, pineapple-coconut cake, peach cobbler, or banana pudding. Whether you eat in or take out, bring your appetite; King’s portions are generous.

Some of the highlight appetizers include coconut shrimp splashed with coconut rum, and a trio of spring rolls: Jamaican jerk chicken with a ginger-pineapple sauce, ackee & cod with a spinach cream dip, and veggie rolls with a tangy mango sauce.
The playfulness with flavors continues into the entrées. Ribs, an American standard, get an Appleton rum and tamarind barbecue sauce. The curry jumbo shrimp get paired with bright and flavorful broccolini and lemongrass-jasmine rice. Lamb is coated in honey mustard before being crusted with parsley, rosemary, thyme, and a few other herbs, then topped with red wine jús and served with mint jelly. Snapper is served up three ways: steamed, seared, or Escovitch style (sort of a Jamaican Ceviche) with a creamy coconut polenta.
