Mount Vernon — CSEA, the union representing 12,000 public workers across Westchester County, announced the endorsement of Shawyn Patterson-Howard in the city’s mayoral race during a news conference held outside Mount Vernon Democratic Headquarters, Thursday, October 24th.
“Thank you to our unions for standing behind us and showing Mount Vernon what it looks like to move #ForwardTogether,” Democratic Mount Vernon Mayoral Nominee Shawyn Patterson-Howard posted on Facebook shortly after the endorsement. “Since day one I’ve spoken about the need to build consensus and work together. Our issues can’t be solved by one person. We move as a team.”
The endorsement comes via the CSEA Southern Region Political Action Committee upon recommendation from the CSEA Westchester County Local 860 Political Action Committee. With early voting slated to start Oct. 26, union leaders said they want their members and residents of Mount Vernon to know where CSEA stands in this important election.
“It’s clear that Shawyn Patterson-Howard is the experienced, capable leader who will lead Mount Vernon in a positive direction,” said CSEA Southern Region President Anthony Adamo. “After the chaos in recent years and the impact it’s had on our members, we look forward to welcoming someone with the integrity and dependability needed to restore stability in Mount Vernon.”
“Shawyn Patterson-Howard will bring stability to Mount Vernon during a crucial time for this great city to move forward,” said CSEA Westchester County Local President John Staino. “The people of Mount Vernon deserve the best from the mayor, and Ms. Patterson-Howard will do just that, bring the best.”
“We look forward to Shawyn Patterson-Howard restoring the office of the mayor to one of professionalism, competence, and stability,” said CSEA City of Mount Vernon Unit President Andrea Ayers. “I can’t emphasize enough the amount of needless stress our members have faced on the job over the past few years because of the perpetual chaos caused by certain city leaders. Worker morale has been at an all-time low, and our members feel strongly that Shawyn Patterson-Howard is the leader who will turn things around.”
In addition to the CSEA-represented city, library, and school district employees, CSEA members working for other municipalities (state, county government, towns, village, cities and school districts) and private sector employers own or rent homes in Mount Vernon. CSEA members are an integral part of the Mount Vernon community, contributing as taxpayers as well as volunteering for various community causes.
The CSEA endorsement comes two days before the beginning of Early Voting. Early Voting begins October 26, 2019, and ends on November 3, 2019.
