VALHALLA, NY — Congressman Jamaal Bowman Ed.D. (NY-16) hosts President Joe Biden at SUNY Westchester Community College on May 10th, 2023, at 10:30am to demand Republicans come to the table on increasing the debt limit to avoid default and ensure veterans’ health care visits, teachers and school support staffs, and Meals on Wheels for seniors’ programs are fully funded.

WHO: President Joe Biden and Congressman Jamaal Bowman Ed.D.

WHAT:  Demanding that Republicans come to the table to avoid default

WHERE: SUNY WCC, 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, NY 10595

WHEN: May 10th, 2023 at 10:30am

“I’m proud to host President Biden in Westchester as we continue to work tirelessly to ensure economic stability for millions of Americans to avoid default,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman Ed.D. (NY-16). “Speaker McCarthy and Republicans are putting all of their energy towards a needlessly cruel plan to dismantle health care, education, the safety of our planet, and more. They are attempting to hold the global economy hostage, threatening a default in order to force through devastating cuts to programs that lift up working Americans, especially in Black and brown communities.”

“In New York alone, the Republicans’ heartless legislation would cut rail safety inspections, making our public transportation less safe and reliable. It would eliminate over 17,000 preschool and childcare spots in the state, while making college more expensive for almost 400,000 New Yorkers, keeping our kids from learning. It would raise housing costs for more than 67,000 people, when the rent is already too high, and families are struggling to put food on the table. Republican’s ruthless legislation is not only going to gut support for hardworking families, but it also gives big corporations and the ultra-wealthy huge tax breaks. I will always stand with working-class Americans and New Yorkers, oppose plans that cut lifesaving programs, and continue to fight for comprehensive climate measures, access to health care, and affordable public education. I’m thankful President Biden is showing New Yorkers and Speaker McCarthy that he’s not willing to slash necessary social spending that people’s livelihoods depend on.”
