By now you have probably heard about Montefiore plans to close Mount Vernon Hospital, despite the federal government classifying much of Mount Vernon as a medically underserved area. Community stakeholders have been meeting to gather information and organize the community to push back against the closing.
“This is not by any means a done deal,” Councilwoman Delia Farquharson shared with Black Westchester. “It is going to be it is up to the grassroots efforts of the community to fight to keep and transform Mount Vernon Hospital. We need everyone to fight.”
Community leaders, stakeholders, healthcare advocates, and elected officials plan Town Hall Meeting to announce to residents planned events to fight to Save and Transform Mount Vernon Hospital.
“It is important that our community is unified, informed, and engaged to save and transform our hospital,” Rev Stephen Pogue, Pastor of Greater Centennial shared with Black Westchester.
The Save & Transform Mt. Vernon Hospital Coalition will be a town hall meeting to educate residents how the potential closure of Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital will impact the community and it’s health on Monday, January 6th at 6:30 PM at Grahan Elementary School located at 421 E. 5th Street (see flyer below).
In addition to educating the community about the facts and engage the community to become a part of this growing coalition, several community engagement events are planned including a press conference and rally outside Mt.
