The Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, established in 1912 who mission is to foster trade and commerce, stimulate tourism and promote the general welfare and prosperity of the community held their annual holiday Award Ceremony at the Bronxville Field Club on 40 Locust Lane, Thursday December 4th. It was a who’s who of Mt. Vernon City Governement officials and the business community.
Award recipients included TD Bank (229 Sandford Blvd) and Lawrence Medical Associates (540 Gramatan Ave) who were both ‘Welcome To Mount Vernon’ honorees, The Government Award went to Planning Commissioner Jamie Martinez, acting Commissioner for the Department of Planning & Community Development. The Community Award was presented to Jim Killoran of Habit for Humanity of Westchester, Small Business Award was presented to lifelong Mt. Vernon resident Chanese Valerie Coleman of Coleman & Coleman, Chamber Member of The Year recipient was Donna Smithson of CMS Bank (40 E. First Street), a Mount Vernon Chamber Trustee, Business of The Year went to Best Buy (555 Sandford Blvd) General Manager Leonard Abbott and the Chamber Legancy Award went to the Westchester Beauty School Culture (6 Gramatan Avenue).
In attendance were The Mount Vernon City Council Members, Roberta Apozo, Richard Thomas, Yuhanna Edwards and Marcus Griffith, Mt Vernon Mayor Ernest D. Davis, the Mt. Vernon Planning Commission and various representatives from local businesses including American Christmas, MoNay’s Closet, Con Ed, CMS Bank, Kensworth Consulting, The Future Society, Noah Consulting, Black Westchester Magazine and many more.
