Carmelo Anthony is heading for free agency to explore his options. Melo “loves being a Knick” but as expected by most, decided to terminate the final year of his contract on Monday.
“Carmelo loves being a Knick, he loves the city and fans,” shares his agent Leon Rose. “At this stage of his career he just wants to explore his options.”
At the announcement that both Melo and Lebron have both opted out, several teams are scrambling to makes moves to be in a position to add the two free agents to their roster. Rumors have been surfacing about the Heat making moves to bring Melo to Miami and the possibility of LeBron and Melo desire to play together next year during the NBA Finals. ESPN has even been conducting an online poll asking fan if they feel the two superstars will be playing together next season.
Carmelo Anthony has decided to visit the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls once teams are allowed to meet with free agents on July 1, according to league sources. Although no meeting can be set up until after July 1, even it isn’t as big as the Decision by Lebron, everyone is trying to figure out what Carmelo is going to do including the Zen Master, Phil Jackson. Will Melo team up with LeBron, or chase a championship with one of the aforementioned teams courting him, not even Melo knows at this point.
