Mrs. Brewington will be challenging longtime President Mattie Little as head of the MV NAACP. Ms. Little has also been drumming up support and has made it known she will be running to retain her seat as president.

Elections will be held November 19th Saturday morning from 9:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the Rev Shelton E. Doles Community Center, located at 250 South 6th Avenue in Mount Vernon, NY.

“Looking forward to stepping up and improving the quality of life in Mount Vernon for all its residents,” Mrs. Brewington posted on her Facebook page.

One member told BW, the Mount Vernon branch was on the verge of being shut down due to lack on membership. Adding despite hosting a debate for the candidates for the 36th Senatorial District, the branch has not been very active in recent years and has not been keeping up with the times.

After hours of searching BW was unable to find much online presence. We were unable to find a website or much information on the branch at all. Nothing on its membership, any social media other than a LinkedIn page. We even struggled to find out how long Ms. Little has been president for this news brief. All the members and other community leaders could just tell us, is its been a long time.

NAACP – Mount Vernon, NY., meetings are open to the general public on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Rev. Shelton Doles Community Center, 250 South 6th Avenue,Mount Vernon, NY 10550 – (914) 297-7ACT (7228), 24 Hour Response Line: (914) 699-4006. Membership is only $30 per year, according to their LinkedIn page. The same way BW urges and encourages all to resister and vote, we believe it is equally important to join the MV NAACP, attend the meetings and be engaged. I for one plan to do just that.
