US Representative Ayanna Pressley Backs Mondaire Jones For Congress in NY-17

Mondaire Jones Picks Up Another Key Endorsement

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — US Representative Ayanna Pressley today endorsed NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones, emphasizing his progressive activism and commitment to giving voice to the voiceless in her endorsement.

“As a lawyer, an activist, and an advocate, Mondaire Jones has devoted his life to making progress for his community,” said Representative Ayanna Pressley. “We are living in unprecedented times; every day, this White House is assaulting our civil rights, liberties, and our basic humanity. Our response must be to elect bold, progressive leaders who will not only resist efforts to take us backwards but who will fight every day to move us forward. Throughout his career, Mondaire has demonstrated his commitment to lifting up the voices of those who have been left out and left behind for too long. Now, we must ensure that he can carry those experiences and those voices with him to the halls of Congress.”

“Congresswoman Pressley has been an inspiration to me since I was a law student at Harvard, long before I decided to run for Congress, so this endorsement is personal for me,” said NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones. “She not only embodies true progressive values but also has the courage to fight for them unapologetically. She has been an advocate for criminal justice reform and has never been afraid to speak truth to power. As the progressive in my race, I’m honored to be recognized by someone who aligns so perfectly with my values and I can’t wait to work with her in Congress to enact the big, structural changes.”

Mondaire Jones has also been endorsed by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Democracy for America, The LGBT Victory Fund, and The Collective PAC. He recently announced that his campaign raised over $489,000 in 2019, the most in individual contributions of any candidate in his race. Unlike many of his opponents, Jones is not accepting corporate PAC money in his campaign and has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Pledge. When elected, Mondaire will make U.S. history as the first openly gay, black member of Congress.

Mondaire Jones is a Democratic candidate running to represent New York’s 17th congressional district, which includes Rockland and northern Westchester Counties stopped by the People Before Politics Radio Show, Sunday, Dec 22, 2019, to discuss why he feels he is the candidate you should vote in the heavily-contested June 2020 Democratic Primary.

About Mondaire: Mondaire Jones is a 32-year-old former litigator in the Westchester County Law Department and former Department of Justice staffer during the Obama Administration. A resident of South Nyack, he is running to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District. A product of East Ramapo public schools, Mondaire was raised in Section 8 housing and on food stamps in the Village of Spring Valley by a single mother who worked multiple jobs to provide for their family. He is a co-founder of the nonprofit Rising Leaders, Inc. and has previously served on the NAACP’s National Board of Directors and on the board of the New York Civil Liberties Union.
