Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins Responds To Mayor Spano’s Comments on Bail Reform

At the Sunday, February 6, 2022, monthly meeting of NYCD16-Indivisible, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins was asked about Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s recent attack on our congressman Rep. Jamaal Bowman. Spano had said that Bowman should be “arrested” for voting against the bipartisan infrastructure bill and then went on to make false claims about bail reform. She replied by condemning the mayor’s remarks, noting that he was clearly running for Congress because he was calling donors to raise money, and then connecting his attack on Bowman and bail reform to the wider “Republican national coordinated campaign of fear.” She warned that Democrats in NY State and nationally were in danger of losing their majority if they didn’t respond head-on to this effort.
