Fallen Tree – 2 Injured New Rochelle Parks & Recreation Employees

New Rochelle — Two New Rochelle Parks and Recreation employees were injured by a falling tree during routine clean-up on Thursday afternoon.

“At approximately 3:50 pm this date, two New Rochelle Parks & Recreation Employees, while conducting routine clean-up in Neptune Park, were struck and injured by a falling tree,” NRPD Captain Cosmo Costa tells Black Westchester. “One employee sustained a head injury and one employee sustained a shoulder injury. Both employees were conscious and were transported by Ambulance to an area hospital.”

According to officials with Con Ed, a tree was in the process of being removed as crews were working in the area to make some necessary repairs. The tree was reported to have then fallen onto a secondary wire in the park, subsequently resulting in injuries to two Parks and Rec employees.

Emergency medical crews were quickly called to the scene of the incident where they transported both injured parties to a local hospital. One of the workers were reported to have sustained a head injury while the other suffered an injury to his shoulder. The extent of the injuries has not been stated at this time.

“We are grateful that the injuries sustained by these two individuals were not more serious,” New Rochelle Councilman Jared Rice tells Black Westchester. “As always, we appreciate the hard work done by all of our city staff, and are wishing them a speedy recovery.”

There were no reported outages following the incident, Con Ed official inform.
